Health & Rights Programme Manager
We seek a dynamic programme manager to head the Health & Rights Programme which covers East Africa.
Working in close collaboration with the Open Society’s Public Health Program (PHP), the position reports to the OSIEA executive director and PHP.
OSIEA promotes vibrant, tolerant democracies in the region by awarding grants, developing programs, and bringing together diverse leaders and groups.
Responsibilities
- Provide a bold vision for innovative work that will add value by identifying grant-making, operational, and advocacy strategies to promote health rights in Eastern Africa
- Management: Supervise staff and ensure a team leadership approach that fosters information sharing, learning, and growth. Coordinate and serve as the key focal point with PHP for collaborative work in Eastern Africa to maximize results and impact
- Conduct relevant legal and policy analysis for internal and external audiences. Write, edit or commission reports and advocacy documents on health rights priorities
Qualifications
- Advanced degree and at least ten years work experience
- Proven commitment to the protection of human rights and substantive knowledge of health rights issues in the East African region
- Five years of experience as a manager with an understanding of the principles and practices involved in the effective management of a complex institution.
- Extraordinary initiative, creativity and capacity to think strategically
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse array of people
- Team spirit and respectful working and decision-making style
- Ability to manage several simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
- Integrity, diplomatic manner and professional discretion essential
- Willingness to travel as needed
