Safaricom Principal Engineer (IP Planning and Design) Job in Kenya

We are pleased to announce the following vacancy in the Network Engineering Department within the Technology Division. 

In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below:

Principal Engineer – IP Planning and Design 
Ref: TECHNOLOGY_PEIPPD__NOV _2012

Reporting to the Senior Manager – Transport and IP Engineering, the position holder will be primarily responsible for managing the planning, design and optimization of a sustainable, future-proof IP (end to end), enterprise and core NGN that support the present and future needs of the business.

The job holder’s key responsibilities will be to:

• Planning, and design of IPRAN, Enterprise and NGN to deliver capacity and quality KPIs
• Activation of Internet Backbone Gateway services and peering with International carriers at IP or L2
• Design/Deployment of International VPNs
• Design custom L2/L3 MPLS VPNs, QoS, VoIP solutions Analyze technical goals and objective for network core and regional expansion.
• Verification and reporting of platform/features compatibility and functionality to meet IP Network design objectives.
• Assessment reports for site facilities to accommodate new IP devices.
• Produce site requirements specifications – physical, electrical, rack layouts and cabling
• Create detailed documentation for implementation of IP network equipment into regional POPs.
• Present implementation plans, discuss implementation strategy and implementation schedule.
• Design, review and analyze acceptance test plans to ensure proper deployment of network devices and handover to Support Teams

The ideal candidate should possess the following skills & competencies:

• B.Sc in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical/Computer Engineering required.
• 5+ years of direct Network Engineering/Network Support experience in a busy Service Provider environment\
• CCIE R&S desired; CCNP/CCIP certification a must;
• Expert knowledge of TCP/IP and the OSI model;
• Experience with network visualization, simulation and modeling tools (e.g. Cariden MATE, OpNET SP Guru, HP Network Analytics);
• Strong skills and experience with IP routers and switches. Extensive knowledge of IP Routing and IP routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, EIGRP, and BGP);
• Knowledge of QoS techniques and hands experience of implementing MPLS services;
• Expert knowledge of network design principles and design best practices;
